Durgnat's next to last book while he was alive, this volume is something of a triumph for the BFI, which Durgnat resisted for many years. As published the book reveals no particular woes owing to the unusually constricting nature of the Modern Classics format. But, see the next volume. A Long Hard Look at Psycho
Durgnat's last book while he was alive, this was apparently intended to be his contribution to the BFI Classics series. But the subject proved to be unruly, so it was finally published separately. It's appearance closely coincided with the writer's death.
